Hozier Box Set

The Hozier Box Set is a three-album box set focussed on the idea of Hozier as a storyteller. This project consists of a fully designed box, three album covers, and a booklet of lyrics. Hozier is a poet and his lyrics once analyzed have a much deeper meaning than their surface value. Many of his songs focus on love, as most do, but not the fairytale type of love that is often seen in pop songs but something more profound, complex, and often twisted. My concept for this box set was to create the look and feel of an old fairy tale book with a darker twist, like those of the Brothers Grimm. When creating song lists for the albums I pulled three main themes from Hozier's music; love and abuse, addiction, and hope. I then used these themes to categorize his songs, ultimately naming the three albums; Twisted, Longing, and Light. I wanted the booklet to resemble that of an old Brothers Grimm book, so I referenced many illustrated manuscripts and books with footnotes. The lyrics were set in a more modern thin, san serif while my writing and footnotes were set in a serif. Each chapter/album starts with a cover page and some hand-drawn illustrations. The lyrics are then listed with footnotes explaining the meaning behind the lyrics.​​​​​​​
